Come spring, all I want is to lie down in a sunny spot and drink in the fresh, new energy from the turquoise sky, inhale the sweet air, and rest on the ground beneath me.
This spring sun snooze is one of the highlights of the year for me. My first remembrance of this annual ritual was at age seven- stretched out on a lounge chair -soaking in warmth. What golden moments!
Somehow too, no matter what is going on or has transpired, if I can just get flat, it renews me like nothing else can. Do you ever get this overwhelming urge?
If you don’t listen to the urge then the body will be loud and clear. It will lie down for you by fainting or collapsing until it feels resourced enough to become upright again.
Which makes me curious. What if instead of waiting for the collapse to arrive (or spring for that matter), I took the initiative each day to lie down on purpose? Not because it’s time to sleep, but because it’s an easy way to renew myself.
Even thinking about a practice like that, gives me a sense of deliverance, a freedom from all that’s pressing on me.
Oh the solace for my soul! Let me stare at the ceiling, the sky, or the canopy of trees and take a load off my shoulders. Here lies permission to notice the clouds, the gentle movement of branches and birds, and to take a long, slow breath.
It’s also a moment to affirm an important fact — even when it’s not going well — the rest of life is still here and moving about its interests. Perhaps, it’s all about perspective, and by embodying a different perspective regularly, it could change everything.
