Three Better Ways To Generate A Positive Mindset

Decided to ditch your bad attitude and start the day with a positive mindset? 


Easier said than done, right?


While a positive mindset is a wonderful thing, it doesn’t come easily to a person who has experienced trauma, loss, is burned out, or has a tendency to melancholy. If you just decide 'to be positive’ you might find yourself fighting a losing battle.


Therefore, there is more to generating a positive mindset than just having a ‘pollyanna’ attitude. After all, life can suck sometimes. If someone tells you to ‘be positive’ or ‘think positive' (or if you tell yourself that)- it might feel insulting and can be like denying a real and difficult experience.  Don't discount life experiences, genetics or other factors when you are wondering why it might be hard for you to be positive.


Be that as it may...I believe there are a number of ways to put yourself into a better state of being and will set you up for a positive day and a positive life.

  3. Resourcing


I can’t believe the difference self-awareness makes in myself and for my coaching or esthetics clients. If I know what is true for me, it gives me the power to make changes. Self-awareness is self-care because it lets me know that I understand, respect and value myself. When a client has an aha moment- even one which might be uncomfortable- it provides immediate relief and empowerment to create a better future. This feels so good to a person!


Self-awareness will also give the freedom to look at things from another perspective. There’s always different perspectives which can be tuned into and with new perspectives comes release from old mental patterns. We can see possibilities and this too is empowering. 


Perspective can be taken from another’s viewpoint who is in the situation with you, or by being an objective observer in the situation (try hovering above the situation as if you are a fly on the wall). Both of these added perspectives can be helpful in generating new ideas and a fresh, positive mindset.


Resourcing will refill your tank and give the nervous system a huge opportunity to be in the calm zone more often than not. This automatically improves your mindset without any effort. 


What is resourcing? It is simply engaging in life in as many enjoyable ways as possible. It is also looking after yourself and practicing simple self-care each and every day. Resourcing can also happen by connecting with loved ones, having a laugh, doing a hobby, or having a spa treatment like a facial. Or resourcing can occur by looking around and noticing anything that is simple, non-addictive, wholesome and beautiful to you.
